Primary schools 

Stoke Primary School in Coventry has sections in its induction policy for:

  • New members of staff
  • Supply staff
  • Governors (explaining that governor induction is covered by the governor induction policy)

For new teaching staff, the induction policy says that the school will:

  • Go through and explain the staff handbook and induction process 
  • Arrange a meeting with the headteacher
  • Appoint a designated mentor

Selston Church of England (CofE) Infant and Nursery School in Nottinghamshire has a staff induction policy that sets out key milestones for the induction programme. 

It explains that before starting, individuals will have:

  • Meetings with staff that'll be key to their responsibilities 
  • Received the following documents:
    • Induction information
    • Code of conduct 
    • Key policies 
    • Rotas
    • Required information on pupils with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), medical or dietary requirements

Special schools

Beatrice Tate School in Tower Hamlets has an induction policy that says that induction programmes will include:

  • A checklist of the policies, procedures and training to be covered
  • An induction timetable
  • Details of the help and support available
  • Details of any work shadowing
  • Details of the individuals with responsibility for induction

It sets out specific job-related training that will be provided for different roles. This includes:

  • Finance and recruitment selection administration training for administrative staff
  • Manual handling training, and training on the use of ladders or kitchen safety for cleaning staff and site supervisors
  • Behaviour management training for midday and cover supervisors

The Avenue Special School in Reading has a statement on its website about staff induction. 

It explains that as part of its induction, the school offers training to prepare individuals to teach in a specialist setting.

The induction programme is tailored around the individual's needs, based on their role, experience and needs of the pupils in their class.
